When my life gets ridiculous, I like to walk around quoting John Mulaney in my head. In my opinion, he is the funniest stand-up comedian out there & he has yet to do anything creepy, so that’s good. I’m talking to you Louis C.K! As a society, we talk a lot about life balance. Everyone wants to know; how do you get it? It sounds so nice, where do you find it? I’m here to tell you, you don’t! There is no balance! Life is ridiculous! I used to give a damn about having a balanced life and it just made me sad. I’m working on a new life approach called, embrace & laugh at the ridiculousness. All of it! Love the ridiculousness. Live it! I spend a majority of my day cleaning up poop, vomit and/or mystery liquids. I then go to work and figuratively clean shit off the walls. That’s pretty depressing when you think about it. The things my daughter does and says are ridiculous. She’s four and the things that come out of her mouth are insane. She hates everything girly and farts like fraternity brother who just binged on Taco Bell and Ice Cream. My son, on the other hand, is one and a crazy person! My son screams at me all day long. He only has a few words, so it’s usually, “BALL, BALL, BALL!” And unfortunately for me, round ball-shaped objects are everywhere.. For me, Monday’s are the very best days because I get to drink an Iced Cold Brew in peace. You see, I’m exhausted all the time. Mentally and physically. Upwards and downwards. Every night, I get so excited to get the kids in bed, pour myself a whiskey and get myself into bed. Once I’m in bed, I turn on the news and that’s even more ridiculous than my actual life. I used to work TV News and I can tell you this: It’s. Not. A. Good. Time. So when your life gets ridiculous, I invite you to embrace it. Laugh along with it. Try to find the humor in the outrageousness that is life because one day you will wake up and miss it.
P.S. If you need a good laugh, I highly recommend John Mulaney’s Netflix special “Kid Gorgeous.” He has the best analogy for Trump and he’ll teach you all about Stranger Danger.
